I have upgrade my iBook OS, from OS922 to 10.3.8.
    (iBook G3 800 MHz, 384 Mb SDRAM, HD 40Gb, ADSL256)

Before I erased all data on my hard disk to zero. Clean installation also.

After that, as a result, I have a corrupted display and a freezed iBook!
    (see attached...)

BUT, if I boot the iBook without extensions, (safe boot),
    it's ok....

I have no ideas how to solve this bug. I tried to re install twice, no more success... I run Disk Utility, TechToolsPro, DiskWarrior, nothing special...

I think to understand a System log could help.

What does <The "HasShadow" window property is obsolete> mean?
How, and where learn to use those system log?

I usually manage well my troobleshootings, but I'm not at all experienced in Unix, BSD, and System log.

Here is a part of last System log

    Feb 15 08:08:11 localhost kernel: ATY,Bee_B: vram [98000000:02000000]
Feb 15 08:08:11 localhost SystemStarter: The "HasShadow" window property is obsolete. Use CGSSetWindowShadowAndRimParameters(cid, wid, 0.0,0.0, 0,0, CGSNoShadowStyle) to turn off the window shadow instead. Set a break-point on CGSLogMessage to find out where this property is set.

Is ATY the culprit? But how to debug this?

    Regards

You didn't backup before upgrading to Lion?
A clean install of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is your only option, as the dozens of other already existing threads can tell you - MRoogle (http://mroogle.edesignuk.com/) might help you there.

    Yes, amongst many others.

    http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/keyboard

Interestingly, the tab shifting buttons they mention in this doesn't work in my Firefox 1.0. I have to use ctrl-page up/dn as opposed to cmd-pageup/dn.

(I keep getting told the server is too busy, so hope this only posts once.)

No. I think the 1Ghz is the better deal.

I really like the value of the 867- finally a non-crippled Pro machine at $1699 or $2699 in Canada is great. I'd wait until the next upgrade to even consider the top of the line.

Quick question. When Steve announces a new iWork and iLife today, will the Apple Stores have it?

I guess my question is, are the new products sitting in the back room of Apple Stores, just waiting for the Keynote to be over, so they can be put on the shelf?

sharp sells a 30" hdtv. if you could hook the machine up to something like that, and have it broadcast at the right resolution, it may look okay. lets hope that if this does happen, it's not a plasma. they're cool, but the picture really sucks as if many of the people here hasn't seen one in an electronics store, or anything :) )

Good stuff! Thank you! Just did a successful upgrade to 4.3.2 without any issues. I had forgotten that I had to hold the Option key while clicking on Restore. (this is on the Mac; Windows works the same way but it's a different key obviously)

(all we need now is a JB ;-) )

Not sure why you didn't just call Monoprice and ask them, and the product page itself says "does not support audio"

I've just reverted my system back to Snow Leopard, so as others have said you'll need to format and start over fresh, where I went wrong though is that i'd stupidly let Time Machine backup in Lion, and after installing SL I restored all my data from that backup and found it had installed the Lion applications as well i.e. Launchpad etc. In addition to this a lot of my applications would not run, as they gave me a message stating they required OS X 10.7 to operate now.

So if you're in the same situation, do a clean install and manually copy across your data from your backup.

they will exchange it. just show them what is worng.

If I bring this to the Genius Bar, which is the more likely outcome: they will fix it, or exchange it? I'd like to know so I can start copying my files off of the computer.

This will have absolutely no effect on SSDs (http://cseweb.ucsd.edu/users/swanson/papers/Fast2011SecErase.pdf) beyond simply wearing them out. A single pass is more than adequate.

awesome techy article yet 2 questions:

why would an SSD/Flash Drive wear out within the life of the machine?
    (even with heavy 'normal' use)

if it indeed did, then what's AppleCare for?

if you can't get 3 years out of a storage device running Mac OSX - even erasing and reinstalling the :apple: OS once a week - then something's amiss.
