If you think about it, it's not all too surprising that some of these "professionals" are getting so worked up and sulky over this release. The notion that "pro editing" can belong to just about anyone, rather than an exclusive circle of elites, poses an existential crisis. Apple's re-thinking of editing is also a re-thinking of what it means to be "professional". The announcement sheds light on a future in which their "advanced", learned techniques are no longer advantageous. The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence. It's not something anyone would really openly admit, but I think they're feeling a bit naked, stripped of their status.

Not everyone likes the touchscreens. I would buy a 200GB classic tomorrow. Not everyone wants iOS and apps and games and all that crap on an MP4 player. i know i don't. the iPod touch should go. they already have an iPhone, i want to listen to music with the occasional video on the bus. and with physical buttons i can change the song with the thing in my pocket. I like the UI and the clickwheel. call me old if you like but im 17.

Give this man/woman/fish (*delete as applicable*) a prize. In a nutshell, this is precisely why Adobe Flash isn't available on the iPhone - Adobe have never been able to make it work under OS X. I have a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and Flash consumes approximately 120% processor time just to playback a low-resolution YouTube video. Under no circumstances would I want to bring code that requires so much resources to do so little to a mobile device. Can you imagine what this would do to your browsing experience and battery life?
I have a lot against Adobe Flash but it is a fact of life and therefore I would like access to Flash content on the iPhone but it has to be done in a way that is appropriate and, right now, I have absolutely no faith that Adobe has a solution that wouldn't destroy the user experience.

I don't like the Microsoft bashing either...it's just something that gets to me. Microsoft bashing is a waste of energy. Who cares what company did what first, as a consumer I don't care about originality. Just give me something that works. Whatever company can implement the idea the best to provide a benefit to ME, gets my business. Just shut up and innovate (like Apple has been doing), the products will speak for themselves.
I agree totally. If anything all the bashing makes Apple (and its fans) seem insecure. Just deliver the goods and let the marketshare speak for itself. (Plus the mightier-than-thou attitude alienates PC users and makes them think twice about joining "the cult".)

My original iPod is still usable! (1st gen) I use it as a portable drive to hold backup financial files and my 1Password backup.

Sounds like you've never actually ordered. Credit cards do not get charged until orders actually ship.
Further, obviously Apple didn't just decide last week to add RS, despite delays at other venues. The deal with RS would have been cut a long time ago, and Apple would be subject to certain supply requirements.
They sent the cover right away, 5 weeks earley, it was on the same order, that way they could charge the card for the sale earley!:confused:

And the VZW throttling post on BGR.com was just a BS warning, NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN THROTTLED! Go the androidforums and you will not find anyone that have ever been throttled!
Now with att try and use alot of data then att will claim you are tethering and automatically switch you to tiered data.

Same here.. my MB started shutting down after updating to 10.4.8 (and the fan firmware update I think) It would shut down when I would just start her up.. or, as you mentioned.. after several hours of use. I formatted the drive and reinstalled 10.4.6.. but shutdowns continued. Weird.I read somewhere that starting up produces an early peak of stress and heat before it settles down again. This might explain why it either happens very early on OR when the machine has warmed up generally.

That will do wonders for my battery life.
But, the further I can get away from physically connecting to a computer for syncing and backing up, the happier I will be. Steps in the right direction.

I get it- as a wife, I was the one buying the iPads, with money I make in my consulting business. However, my husband would have not been pleased if it was blowing all of our discretional income without discussing it first...
In this case, since he gets my iPad 1, he is happy, and he's thrilled that I've made enough $ through my p/t job to afford to do this.
Marriage is all about mutual responsibility. And while he "asks" me before buying stuff for his wood workshop, I don't ever think I would say "no"- depending on the expense it might only be "not now". Our unspoken rule is if it's a non-essential over about $200, the other spouse should be advised and gets a courtesy ask. Keeps us both happy.
I'm a guy, but I think its reasonable to discuss major purchases with your spouse. Of course it goes both ways. She can't just go out and drop $500 on shoes/purses/girls nights out without discussing it. And if one spouse is a stay at home parent, they still get a say in managing the household expenses. It is a mutual respect issue.

Excellent news, glad to see Apple isn't too far behind the times, nor were they going to do something silly like make us wait for Santa Rosa in the MBPs before updating the MacBook line. ;)
My wife will be thrilled, she's been holding off a purchase until the MacBook line got upgraded. Now that they will be out we can test drive one, make sure it meets her needs and we'll have a nice addition to our family. ;) :cool:

The basis for any good relationship is communication. And I am not sure what kind of money you make, but $500 is a pretty big wad of cash to throw down and it should merit a conversation with your spouse. Its not like you threw down a $1 on a cheeseburger, or $2 on a scratch off, or heck $20 of beer. You spent $500, thats like a whole months utilities. Thats a car payment. Thats a few hours of tuition for your kid's college one day. Its no chump change.
And household income should be considered just that, household. It does not matter who makes more money, it should be community, and if you're spending $500 on an iPad, then you're lady should be able to spend $500 on a coach purse. How would you feel about that?
Non-necessities, expensive purchases should always be discussed. There is a need for open, honest communication in a marriage. If you don't have that, and you are running around buying ipads without consulting them, well unless you got a fad wad of cash, you likely wont stay married long.
Its about respect. If you don't respect your wife enough to discuss a $500 purchase with her, then you don't deserve to have the companionship of a female.

In many cases, money itself is not an issue in such a purchase, as the wife would not blink twice in spending that amount on something SHE wants. My point was that sometimes they refuse things simply because they dont see it benefitting THEM- and that is something selfish, and shows a lack of respect. Of course if the guy is blowing $$ on an iPad when they're having trouble putting food on the table, thats an issue. My post wasnt centered on these cases. It made the assumption that it could comfortably be afforded, but which the wife doesnt see the value in it for herself, which is the sole reason of the refusal or the demand that it be returned. And Ive seen this on many, many occasions. I know this guy that brings in 6 figures a yr, yes his wife (who brings in nothing) controls the bank account. The guy has no balls, his wife dictates the purchases, buys whatever the hell she pleases, and gets upset when he spends on anything without consulting her. She doesnt let him buy **** he wants, the cost of which is a drop in the bucket compared to the income he makes, simply because SHE doesnt see the value in it. But like I said, the guy has no balls and takes it, while she spends thousands on shoes, etc without needing to consult him.But hey, some people love that ****. I hope what this shows the PC makers is that it's not just a race to the bottom as far as price is concerned, but that people are willing to pay more for a device if it's built well and does a good job.
Stop worrying about shaving that extra dollar off the price and providing the rock-bottom rickety low-cost PC that will fall apart in a few months; instead, go ahead and invest in computers with longer battery life, better build quality, and other useful features -- consumers are willing to pay for it.

Here's a question to ponder...How are people suppose to install this firmware if there macbooks keep shutting down?
Anyways, I reccomend people use this firmware instead of geting their heatsink replaced. The later option involves an ugly screw in the middle of your macbook.

Well interesting point haha These cups are actually from classmates and one is my own. It's going to be a continuous series using peoples cups that aren't from the garbage haha. I made sure to ask them for the cups before they threw them away :p

When Phil announced the MacPro and the Xeon chip he stressed on an amazing performance per watt ratio. That sounded a lot like Steve introducing the MacBook Pro and iMac with the first Intel chips. At the time the performance per watt ratio was an important criteria for battery life on notebooks, which is apparently why the PowerBook never got a G5.
With the Xeons high perf/watt, should we be expecting them to be fitted in later MacBook and MacBook Pros?No. Mobiles get Merom processors which are made to get maximum performance on the go.
