OK... who can show us a pic of this extra screw?
I have a screw in the bottom middle of my MacBook, but I honestly don't remember if it was there before I sent it in or not. Either way, it looks (and if I run my finger over it, it feels) like it was originally there, so I'm not sweating it.

How can it be a real computer and you cant even turn it on without syncing it to a real computer? So basically to buy an ipad you have to own another $500 piece of hardware to use an ipad. I love my ipad and it has basically replaced my laptops, but its a shame that you cant manage your music, sync your apps or update your OS without being connected to a real computer.
you could have apple set it up at the store when you buy it... then you can download music and apps on device, so really the only reason one would need to connect to a computer is to create a backup or update the OS... still isn't a real computer imo but you definitely don't need a computer to use an iPad. I bought one for my grandma and she uses it as her only computer, so depending on ones needs, yes it can replace an actual computer, for others, not so much.

HTC and LG have the factory space to try and compete, so they do.
Nintendo makes products for 6 year old girls.
Apple is not interested in what is today known as "3D" which is just two out of focus images hurting your eyes.
Thank you for mentioning the "3D" issue.
It gives people head aches and I feel really ripped off at the movie theaters, when they charge for these glasses, that you theoretically could keep and use again and again etc.
But...........we know why they $ell them.

I heard from an Apple employee that there is a clue in the slogan. Come on guys, keep speculating!

There's no way Apple will wait until stock is completely depleted at the discount outlets.
Completely depleted is too strong a word. But, waiting for existing inventories to be relatively low before a release makes sense.
Anyway, we shall see. I can't wait until the wait is over and I can move on to deciding which new model makes for the best investment.

It'll be $129 the same as ALL of the past upgrades except for Snow Leopard which was Leopard but just a slimmed-down, rewriting of the OS. Apple felt that without a lot of core new features being added, they would give the public a break and just charge a nominal fee for Snow Leopard, rather than the typical $129.
Don't listen to anyone who says differently. It will be $129.
well if its $129 then people would just pay $99 for the mac developer program and get it $30 cheaper
$79 or less

Maybe a whole new kind of display using E ink. Sony has something called a Reader that uses it. It draws very little power, none at all if the background is static and unmoving.
Look at it here. http://www.eink.com/

So nothing but small add ons for half a decade? That's still pretty sad.

might return my MBP 17" and say mum said no....
wonder if i can score a freee MBP 17"
Of course you won't.
It is more likely that the whole ipad thing didn't happen either. If it did, why are there no details. Why hasn't the guy stepped up to defend the blogs for not lying. Where are the photos of the ipad with the post it note.
Apple might give something like that away to heal negative PR like the whole "oh poor woman on welfare that saved up but doesn't have a bank account to pay for anything that yelled foul cause Apple, according to their legal rights, didn't take cash for a brief time" stuff last year (and don't try to tell me that she needs good credit for a checking account with a debit card). But they aren't going to hand one to someone for a lame reason like "my wife has me whipped and said I can't have any more toys"

As much as I hate my 3G these days (SLOW) i'd rather wait a few extra months for an LTE iPhone to last me another 2 years instead of having LTE in 2012 and feeling the need to upgrade so soon.
Hopefully iPhone 5 will be both 3G/LTE and GSM/CDMA

In all honesty, he took the job knowing that he has to submit all his software he makes for facebook to Apple. I don't understand why he has to make a public comment whining about why he doesn't want to submit his software to a "middleman". Cool, next week I'm going to go whine to my boss saying I don't like him telling me what to do. I'm sure my boss, i.e. Apple, doesn't give a ****! It's a job!!!! If you want to be your own boss then do that, but don't whine about the role of employer/employee when you took the job!

I'm not sure how you can call the iPhone 4 a "POS". I've had all the iPhones and it is MUCH better in about 10 different ways. Don't listen to all the stupid BS about the antenna... I've NEVER had the issue unless I sat they and tried to do it exactly as told. Even then, minimal. iPhone 4 has many more features, and even just the design, makes the previous ones look like toys.
If I were involved in the design and heard comments like that, I'd be offended. Or actually, probably just ignore it, since the person saying that doesn't know what they're saying... sorry to be mean, but I just don't get it.
I could cause the antenna to lose all its bars by placing my one finger on the antenna... Thats ridiculous. And anyone who has one, on the At&T network and says "I've never dropped a call" is a fanboi in the worst way and flat out lying. All my iPhones, - and even non-iPhones - on AT&T's network drop calls period, all the time. Even if the antenna design was perfect on the iPhone 4, it would drop calls because of At&T's network, so yea... I don't believe that in a second.
Not to mention all the problems people were having with the screen, and the proximity sensors... and thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there is/was more. Also, I refused to buy another iPhone that didn't have more than 32 GB of space, since I'm currently maxing out the capacity on my current 32 GB iPhone. Thus, I decided not to upgrade to avoid dealing with all that. Really, the 4 was just problems and a few spec increases. The increased resolution of the display means nothing to me without a larger screen, and the 3GS was fast enough at the time. The one and only thing that I would have enjoyed is the bump in RAM.
Also, design-wise, I'd take the original iPhone over any of the others. It's too bad the AL causes havoc with radio signals. I would think someone who supposedly had all the iPhones would agree. And at least not think it looked like a "toy".
Good thing your not a designer, since when you designed crap and people called you out on it you'd be offended. You'd probably not be able to emotionally handle it.
And I 100% know what I'm talking about. Because I have an Anti-Apple opinion doesn't mean I'm ill-informed and I don't know what I'm talking about. I've worked on and dealt with enough electronics to have an informed opinion.

I agree and disagree. It's more than just the cool factor. But that is a big part. Consumers also know that a Apple product is more reliable, better supported and overall less headache than a PC.
So basically, there is a reality to the marketing hype.
Im not sure about the reliability, Apple products have taken a massive down turn in reliability. My old G4 is going strong but everyone I know who has a Mac Book has had to have them repaired by Apple stores. Seems like the dvd drives on them break quite a lot.

Again, the military is inextricable from the economy. Not only are large sectors heavily dependent on military spending (like the town of 150,000 just west of me, that would utterly collapse if its two bases were closed), but a weaker military would risk tremendous losses in international commerce as foreign nations take back control of their own markets and resources absent the pressure of potential American military action.
If you want to cut the military budget significantly, you had best have a really good plan in place to deal with the consequences. I think it is unlikely that our brand of "capitalism" would last long without a strong Pentagon.
(Which could be a good thing, in the long run, but a treacherous bridge to cross.)
In a free and prosperous market, business exists and is done solely because it is profitable. When it ceases being profitable, it must be stopped. To keep pouring 100 units of money into something for the sake of getting 10 units of money out via payroll can only end in one thing....failure. (I'm using 'units of money' as a general example)

Why wasn't I surprised it was you who gave this answer...
sigh
You aren't very good at this. Consequently, I'm sure I must explain why:
You consistently post unsubstantiated claims of which you know nothing about, often in direct opposition to demonstrable facts, such as this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12258124&postcount=9), this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11846466&postcount=52), this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11681351&postcount=74), and this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11681229&postcount=60). As such, it's not surprising when you post a reply that follows the same theme: denying the existence of anything that negatively portrays the products or services you are personally invested in.
It's a pattern born from the same insecurity that would cause one to name himself after said product.
Your attempt at trolling me doesn't even make sense because the referenced posts don't have any similarities.

..hmm... as many of you know .mac has really been struggling in the past few months.
Prediction:
Steve will announce an all new .mac service, with web based applications reserved solely for .mac members. Also a new feature will be the ability to store videos on your .mac which can be streamed to your iphone and AppleTV 2.
j.
These would be nice.
Also direct machine to machine syncing, synching to iphone/touch would be very nice.

Yes, that is a very nerdy/geeky thing to do. "Zune"-ing music wirelessly is only something geeks can come up with, whereas Steve's suggestion of sharing earbuds is so much cooler and, dare I say it, sexually suggestive! ;)
Yes.. especially when the person you want to share the tune with isn't a girl.. but a fat, sweaty, hairy guy who's just getting over an ear infection.
Yea. I'd let that dude ram one of my earbuds in his head and sit all close in the cafeteria while we listen to music.
Plenty of people i'd let listen to music I had.. not alot of people i'd share my earbuds with, or wanna sit all close with.
Recently, a guy I had just met asked to use my cell phone.. so I let him.
He must have talked on the phone for less than a minute, but when he handed it back, the damn thing was DRIPPING with sweat.
Yuck.
A real nice guy, very friendly, and a pleasure to sit and talk with.. and would probably give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.. but if the way he handed my cell phone back is any indication, you'd have to wring the shirt out first.
Did I mention YUCK?
Yall can cuddle up close to him and share earbuds if you want.
