Every time I go by CR's reviews, I make a terrible purchase... I wonder what that says.

Maybe I'm reading to much into this... but did anyone else notice that Apple has all of their products on that big banner except for the full-size iPod and the Xserve? Could it be that the new iPod will certainly be released then, and that its banner is hidden?

Hmm, that is interesting. I hadn't thought of that...

The GPU can do that, no need for CPU. The CPU is just there to tell the GPU what to crunch assuming no FLAGS were thrown regarding a particular DRM-protected data.

Thunderbolt is just the transmission protocol, there is no actual decode or encode besides what is hard wired at the ports.

Hmm, maybe we are thinking of two different things. How is this going to maintain a protected path? How would Apple keep us from grabbing the stream as it is being sent to the GPU (to be shown on the screen)? That is the part I am thinking of, that is what HDCP/DPCP is supposed to prevent. If we are sending data down the PCIe side then how is it being protected from snooping?

I would say some obvious features that were not shown in the iTV demo but might make it onto the final product would include:

    - Web browsing
    - iPod games
    - E-mail
    - iChat/VOIP
    - iPod/iTunes music/video purchasing and sync (via wireless iPod or iPod cradle?)
    - Wireless N router

There may be more functions that are related to Leopard or future Apple devices. Will it stream content to an iPhone like a Slingbox or Orb on the PC? Will it sync with a video iPod?

It really depends on how Apple intends to position this device, either as a standalone wireless hub for media content or an accessory to other Macs.

Haha, I love the digs at Vista. Vista's been getting so much bad press recently this is fantastic. They should simply have this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QdGt3ix2CQ) video on repeat on screens throughout the event!!

Please do a little research before making assumptions. "Search" is your friend.

    Reading comprehension is your friend.

    1. This thread is about the ad.
    2. I was stating my personal experience with my iPad 2 which was the same as with my iPad 1. There were no scratches or dents.

No amount of searching would change my personal "experience". I have also heard about people getting returns as "new" at some stores.

If the iPad is not covered by a plastic cover on the front and back then it is a return.

Do you listen to country music ironically? Do you drink PBR?

Not getting any of these at all.

I suspect that a particular application causes these crashes as this behavior only exists on one account of my machine. However, I have not been able to pin down the culprit...

Does anyone know what the following error message in the crash report may indicate?
xpchelper registration failed for sandbox candidate.: _xpc_connection_send_serializer_to_port() returns NULL

I think it's ridiculous to not put a Core 2 Duo chip into the Mini. While I'm not waiting for Merom, to upgrade one of your machines with a faster version of the same soon-to-be-out-of-date chip is silly.

And there I thought that Microshaft stopped development of Internet Exploder for the Mac because Apple released Safari. Which happened first?

read above- apple released safari first (altho imac_japan will deny that. he denies anything anyone writes except himself). M$ thot that safari was too good for them to be able to compete, so they withdrew. this was plan that was already in motion to remove all stand alone versions of IE (win/mac).

    Well....then Is this the Mac-files ?
    Is there a conspiracy ???

no, but its true! ask most ppl here and they will tell you that. these were also both UK sites, and ive found that (no offense) UK sites dont usually provide an unbiased opinion about apple. IMHO, i think its cuz they're upset that the iPod mini and iTMS haven't been released there yet. :D

    Here's my idea

    drop the mini

    make three tier imac line
    17" Merom
    20" conroe/merom
    23" conroe

then add in a cube like deskop for a pro-sumer computer with three tiers and upgradeability

    *hopes*

    Reasoning goes like this:

Music costs a small amount to make - can be as low as $10k for an album.
Sell a bunch and make some profit.

Movies cost upwards of $50 million to make, often $100mil or more, so you got to rent them and sell them and do whatever you can to get that cash back.
And its got to go out the door at $25 if you are buying.

Thing is, if Apple want me to buy a movie for $15, I can rent it for $5 at the store.....and copy it if I want.
Yeah, I know thats against the law but a LOT of people do it, and anyway, if you d/l from Apple, where are you going to keep them all?

250 gig drive will hold about 30 movies. Thats not a lot of movies, and most people dont have 250 drives yet.....
Upwards of $50 million? Yeah, the crappy ones do. Usually though I prefer low budget movies... Donnie Darko was made for maybe 4 million for example. Mulholland Drive: 15 million. Machuca: 1.5 million. 12 Angry Men: $340.000 (ok, that's an old movie, but I doubt it would cost much more when it was made today). American Beauty: 1.5 million. 2046: 12 million. Muxmuschenstill: 40000 (absolutely fantastic movie). Why do the actors earn so much money when there are tons of good, unknown actors who could do the job better? Why so many special effects? And even if you use so many... Sin City was 40 million, Renaissance 14 million , A Scanner Darkly 8.5 millions. These movies shure took quite a lot of efford... why are they so cheap? Somethings going wrong in Hollywood. Too many bad movies done for too much money made only to earn money.

Anyway, buying DVD isn't too expensive too, the Criterion Collection is unfortunately expensive as hell, and you'll have to import them here, but there are quite a few good movies for a low price. Donnie Darko e.g. sells for a low price (around 10 for the tin box 2 disc version), Mulholland Drive 10 , some Kubricks 10 or less, ... the Arthaus label is very expensive unfortunately... they seem to be some sort of German Criterion, without packing in so many specials.

Apple would have to compete with these prices, and that doesn't mean same price, but lower, much lower. I mean what looks better? A nice, big DVD collection, or, well... nothing...?

Uncompressed. That IS the key. Friends don't let friends buy compressed faux music. And play your uncompressed music with your tube amps and AR 3a speakers. Howz that for classic?

Pretty damn accurate. 5 channel surround sound on my dock connector and I can hear my speakers from across the road. Though people sometimes complain about it:p

I don't live near any senior citizens so sometimes i just ask for requests if its nothing completely ridiculous like Bieber. I only keep ~5000 songs on the iPod because i recently lost my entire music library and have been slowly rebuilding it on an SSD which is much more reliable.

UN "No Fly Zone" Resolution: US will use Lybia as aerial target practice

Late to the party. Not going to read all the posts. I guess my browser is broken, because I can't seem to find the cited resolution language expressly stating: "US will use Lybia as aerial target practice."

I guess the alternative is that someone lacks the confidence to set forth a an objective, non-rhetorical thread title.

iPad 1 does not support HDMI out, so I'm assuming no, it doesn't work.

The iPad 1 does support HDMI out. I have the adaptor and checked it out with a movie. It doesn't support mirroring but it does support the output.

Poop. And I was hoping for a $100 price drop.

I see why Apple came out with a 24-inch iMac the same day... we can't complain! :p

Did I miss something or did the top end mini model go from $799 to $599. Ok. it has a smaller drive and no superdrive. BUt who uses DVDs anymore?

So someone who is sterile due to medical reasons shouldn't be allowed to marry either? There's no natural way for them to reproduce.

You're twisting the argument. Guy + Girl have the possibility to make baby (if they're sterile that's an isolated case). Guy + Guy or Girl + Girl will never be able to have sexual intercourse and have children. Marriage today to most people is nothing more than a loosely binded formal contract, since it can be terminated at any time with little to no repercussions.
