The thing that's frustrated me with Apple is the long wait for even minor product updates. The Merom update across the line should be a no brainer especially since the chip is more efficient and is easy to implement. Almost every other manufacturer announced Merom laptops already. Knowing Apple though, they'll just drag it out without mercy and only do the Merom updates in January for Macworld. In the meantime, we'll all be wondering if perhaps next week would be the right time to buy a new notebook because of some hot new rumor. Very frustrating. Now that Apple has switched to Intel, why not do chip updates without the fanfare that accompanied the minor PowerPC updates? :rolleyes:

As a MBP Merom dreamer i feel... well like I dont know how I feel....

If I was optimistic I would say the must have cleared the iMac out for a reason. Perhaps the new MBP will have a few more changes than just C2D to speak about so they updated iMac got it out and will now use the MBP as a big speaking event along with the iTunes Movie store and stuff...

Guys.. and I know this is a stretch. Remember the big uproar Jason O'Grady started with his fake stories of LCD screens from Apple around the NAB timeframe if memory serves. I suspect it was a typical O'Grady tactic to drive eyes to his site.. however if you think about it.. the 23" iMac with improved Front Row and VESA mount, could serve as this type of thing on a smaller scale obviously. It will not compete with my Mac Mini via DVI to a 50" DLP.. that just rocks.:D

Unless of course they're waiting on releasing a mini-tower with Conroe and dub that the "Mac" making a return for their 30th anniversary year. One or the other, I wouldn't be suprise if they bring back some of that 30th anniversary year fanfare for the release of one of those two. A 23" iMac would definitely be claim worthy of the name, especially if they could squeeze a conroe in it and put it in cinema display aluminum enclosures. Oh well, just me dreaming I guess. Oh, and a sub-$2000 price point wouldn't hurt either! I do want to see conroe inside some mac before this time next year though...

I don't think so because if you add a computer to the cart, it says "Get a free nano.. blahblahblah" and it links to a page with the old nano model but a lower price. The pdf mail-in-rebate has also been updated with two columns, one with the old prices (ordered before sept 12) and one with the new prices (ordered after sept 12) but always with the old model.

I will have to call Apple. My serial number is within the range and it says it is invalid.
Dang this is, I just bought a new battery to replace the one Apple will now replace for free. I guess I can try and return it for something else after it gets here. I don't really like having two batteries.
Change the last digit of the batterys serial number to a "C" works every time.....

So far I have yet to see an official confirmation from a reputable (read "not-rumour") web site.
The "confirmations" flying around all seem to be the rumour sites referencing each other.
Until I see iLounge or MacWorld get an invitation I won't be getting my hopes up for an secret-Apple-ninja-attack event.

Sounds like Wal-Mart may have an as-yet-unannounced partnership with MS or Amazon (more likely the latter, as Amazon is already delivering movies).
Why else throw this much weight at the issue?

For whom doesn't understand what we are talkin' about: There is a way to enable 4~5 fingers gesture function which is allowed only for developers. Purchase Xcode($4.99) from Mac App Store, install it, connect the iPad to the USB port and Xcode will recognize your iPad and there is a button asks you to use this iPad for development purpose. Click it and it will ask your developer ID but you can simply click cancel, it will anyway continue the procedure to enable the function. After that, go to the preference - general on you iPad, you will get to see the option for the 4~5 fingers gesture. I personally think, it is worth more than $5.

Oh ya... he's something cheesie... this has been on my mind for a while. In january, Steve demoed GarageBand and showed how to make PodCast. He did that fake podcast and said 'Hi this is steve, and this is my Super secret apple PodCast' then he proceded to make jokes about the next iPod... he said the next iPod coming out would have a 10 inch screen and weigh 8 pounds.

They make money selling hardware.
An operating system is a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs co-exist peacefully on the same system. However, Apple does not generate much revenue from software sales. If they did, it would be a separate line item in their financials and they would probably need to disclose more information about software sales, since such a large part of the increase in shareholder value would be dependent on it.
Same deal with iTunes Store sales, App Store revenue, MobileMe subscriptions, etc. Not a major part of their bottom line. Apple uses software and content to drive sales of their high-margin hardware.
While what you say is definitely true, context matters! WWDC is not for hardware developers but is predominantly for software developers. If it is not a software company, why would so many software developers throng to their conference? Calling it a software company in this context does not take anything away from it being a hardware company, the way you describe it.

I also think that whoever has the remaining rights to this material realise that its shelf-life is almost up. In 5-10 years time, the broad appeal of much of this material may have less relevance to the average consumer and its perceived market-value may be far less.
That's not a comment on the merits of The Beatles' music; just my view based on many of the comments I read by what I am assuming are younger music listeners.
I'm 43, many of these songs are ingrained into my memory from childhood, but the only Beatles albums I would possibly be interested in are maybe 2-4 remastered CDs; I'm not interested in downloads at all. But to be honest, I don't feel that by not currently owning them that my music collection is lacking at all.

There will be Beatles songs that are removed from the public conciousness in the way you describe, but there will be others that live on. Likewise, the image of the Beatles is long-lasting. I think the time will come that Apple (Corps) will not be able to think up new ways of presenting the music, or people will tire of new ways of hearing the music. But the image of the Beatles as the greatest pop/rock band, the music and social innovators, is enduring.

I think that is the older recall mentioned above. I exchanged mine (free) when I bought my used PB several months ago.

I don't have the mono set but I listen to lossless CD rips with my iPhone set to mono. In mono I get to hear what George Martin really had in mind. An additional benefit is that mono tends to hide George's horrible guitar playing, attempts at singing songs too difficult for their singing abilities and most of all horrible stereo versions that resulted from down mixing with primitive recording equipment.
In all fairness to The Beatles the modern concept of stereo intended for headphone use with centered voices, duplicated guitars at maximum spread and slightly spread but centered drums hadn't been invented yet. Especially for the earlier albums the mono sound is The Beatles sound.
The Mono mixes are very different to the Stereo ones. It isn't just a case of only having one output but they are different mixes. Songs play at different speeds and, for example, the end of Helter Skelter is totally different (no blisters on the fingers). There are also lots of subtle differences.
